You’ve arrived at Juan Santamaria Airport in San Jose. With your Costa Rica
map in hand, you are ready to venture down to your hotel and begin your
vacation in paradise.

greets you at the airport and transports you from the bustling city through the
mountains and to the beach and your hotel in an air conditioned tour van.
The van will hold up to 9 persons with luggage and costs from $175 each way.
Drive time is approximately 4+ hours, depending on the stops you choose to
make along the way.
By Shared Minibus Service
Easy Ride is a shared minibus service from San Jose to Ojochal. Buses leave San
Jose at 7:00 am and 4:00 pm.
By Car
Load your luggage, grab your Costa Rica road map (our friends at Map quest
have yet to figure out how to find real estate with no street numbers) and head
to the beach –
Option 1: Completely paved route - From San Jose, drive south on the
Panamerican Highway toward Cartago and then to San Isidro de El General. From
there, follow the sign to Dominical. Take a left onto the "Costanera Sur", the
newly paved coastal road. The LOOKOUT at Playa Tortuga is 35 kilometers (22
miles) south of Dominical between mile markers 175 and 176.
Option 2: Partially paved route - From San Jose, drive west from Juan
Santamaria International Airport near Alajuela to Orotina, Jaco and Quepos.
Drive south from Quepos (Manuel Antonio National Park) to Dominical along the
"Costanera Sur" coastal road. This route takes 4-6 hrs and is not paved from
Quepos to Dominical. The LOOKOUT at Playa Tortuga is 35 kilometers (22 miles)
south of Dominical between mile markers 175 and 176.
By Bus
Local busses bring you from the center of San Jose ($15+ cab ride from the
airport) to destinations close to the Lookout. Busses are clean and cheap, but very slow.
By Air
A great way to tour Costa Rica from above. Sansa and Nature Air offer daily
45-minute flights from San Jose to Palmar Sur. Advance reservations are required.
